Strategy and Action Plan for Irish Trade, Tourism and Investment to 201528/9/10
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Micheál Martin T.D., has welcomed the launch of “Trading and Investing in a Smart Economy”, the Strategy and Action Plan for Irish Trade, Tourism and Investment to 2015.
The Government strategy, which was launched today by the Taoiseach, Brian Cowen, T.D., and the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation, Batt O’Keefe, T.D., sets out priorities and targets to 2015 and a range of actions that will help the export sector to realise its potential for growth in the years ahead.
The Minister said: “I am very pleased that my Department, and our Embassy and Consular network, will continue to play an important and growing role in supporting Ireland’s export sector as an integral part of this strategy. The Department of Foreign Affairs has worked closely with the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Innovation and other Departments and State agencies with responsibility for trade, tourism and investment to ensure that the strategy reflects a ‘joined up’ approach. I believe that it is more important than ever that we make full use of all of our resources abroad, in a coherent approach, to help Irish companies grow in their existing markets and to extend their reach into emerging and developing economies.
“The contribution that Ireland’s network of Embassies make in promoting our economic objectives internationally has become increasingly important. There is also a growing appreciation that our international cultural reputation can contribute effectively to advancing Ireland’s economic and trading interests. I have told our Missions that economic and trade-related work should be considered their highest priority and have seen myself the benefits that can be reaped through coordinated action by the Embassies and State agencies overseas. I believe that the action plan that forms a core part of this strategy will provide the framework to support more integrated economic activity overseas and ensure that the ambitious targets outlined in the strategy are achieved.”
